Frequently Asked Basic Questions

    What is airsoft?

Airsoft is a game similar to paintball using 6mm replica Automatic Electric Guns commonly refered to as AEGs. These are usually 1:1 based models of real life counter part fire arms requiring batteries to operate instead of a powdered charge or co2. It is also an honor sport, because of this it requires a different sets of rules and regulations compared to paintball. An airsoft game on the island can last any-were from 45 minutes to 2-3 hours or longer depending on the game type and objectives. Playing with them in public is just plain stupid, and your liable to get yourself shot for your efforts. Only play in paintball approved areas. For more information on airsoft click here.

What makes airsoft different the paintball?

Airsoft relies on team work, co-ordination and tactics to complete the set objectives. Airsofters also abide by an honor system(see below) and do not play competitively. Airsoft also uses realistic 1:1 replica battery powered bb guns with remove able magazines, NOT SOFTAIR.Since the guns are real, we ask all airsofters as well as club members to treat them as such and never use them in a way that would cause negative vibes towards airsofters.

What is the "Honor System"?

The Honor system is basically states that you "Joe/Jan Player" while playing airsoft gets hit by a bb while playing under the following circumstances calling themselves "out" by yelling "hit". They then proceed to raise there gun above there head or place a "kill rag" (white/red cloth) as a phyiscal signal to other observing players that they are "dead". Dead people do not move or talk while dead, if the player should find himself in a cross fire he/she is free to leave the area and wait till the game is finished before rejoining or discharging (firing) their AEG. Players are considered hit and "dead" even by ricochets, friendly fire, and accidental discharges no matter how slightly it hit them or were it hit them. Players who do not abide by this rule will be asked to leave. This is asked of everyone, no exceptions. The best rule to this I have found is " When in doubt, call yourself out ".

How much does it cost to start playing?

That depends on how much you want to get into it, you may want to check our equipment section for more information. How-ever it's probably best to come out first and rent a gun before investing in one. CENTRAL ISLAND AIRSOFT DOES NOT PLAY WITH PEOPLE WHO USE SOFT-AIR "AEG's".They are garbage, and you get what you pay for.

Here are some simple questions and answers:

Question: What gun is the "best"?
Answer: It depends really, in terms of duribility I would say a stock TM Ak-47. Other then that most guns are just cosmetic prefference unless you start upgrading internals. Internally up graded guns tend to malfunction more and suffer more breakages due to wear and tear.

Question: How much does it cost to get into the hobby?
Answer: It all would depend on how much you want to spend really. Some Chinese airsoft gun makers are flooding the market with half decent AEG's for around $400, and the trend looks like it will continue for a long time to come. Occasional playing should be fine with a $500-800 are for a half decent used AEG, just buyer be ware and know what you are looking for. How-ever if you really want to get into it, you can spend $1000's of dollars on your gun and kit, how-ever its not the gun that makes the player. BB's also cost a lot less then paintballs, a bag of BB's can go for around $20 / 2000-2500 depending on BB weight.

Question: How do I become a member of C.I.A?
Answer: Simple, have common sense about were and when you use your airsoft rifle. These look really real, so we only bring them out in the field envirnoment. Second is have your own kit, so make sure you have a good AEG and a set of Camo and Rain kit ready cause you will need it we play year around. Regularly attend CIA games/ Functions, as these are important as input is required in many areas including the forum, without player input C.I.A does not run! We are not here to tell you what to wear or how to wear it, we are here to provide you with a safe place to play with honest players.

Question: High caps or low cap magazines?
Answer:That would really all depend on how much money you would like to spend. Low caps are getting cheaper these days, and are nice because reloading is fun. Highcaps are generally for new players who dont have alot of money or are just getting started. I generally preffer low caps as they make less noise in the woods (as a half full high cap is like a moracca strapped to your AEG).

Question: Do you play with other BC clubs?
Answer: C.I.A members regularly travel around BC and play with other airsoft clubs (OPFOR-BCAC) and other Vancouver based clubs, our rules are kept in-line with theirs so nothing should be to "out of the ordinary" at the game day. They do chronograph guns, so be advised that when you are a new player they are going to test it out stock or not.
